Nick Kyrgios shares his reason for attending the Diriyah Tennis Cup in Saudia Arabia and its promotion of tennis.
Kyrgios is among the players that will play tennis in Saudi Arabia this week and like most of them, he caught some criticism for it. Kyrgios is not one to be affected by criticism much as he's dealt with it for years but he did explain why he is attending the event.
He wants to promote the sport:
“I love travelling to places where you don't know much about tennis, and trying to draw attention to the sport, I think it's important. When I retire I want to know that I have left something and get many new fans into the sport. I think it's a bonus for me to be able to play these matches and I will use the pressure from the match to start ahead of the others at the start of the season.”
It's a bit of a different response from the one he gave a fan a few days ago on Instagram when asked why he wasn't playing for Australia at the Davis Cup Finals. Kyrgios said:
“About to go to Saudi for 6 figures actually.”
