Kyrgios secures Stuttgart quarterfinal with comeback win over Basilashvili

Nick Kyrgios dropped the opening set against Nikoloz Basilashvili but fought back to win the next two 6-4 6-3 and advance to the quarterfinals.

Nick Kyrgios won his 2nd match back from his vacation reaching the quarterfinals in Stuttgart. It was a typical Kyrgios match where he largely dominated on his own serve hitting 20 aces. He won over 80 % of his first serves and was not broken once in this match. He did have to save a single break point and it happened in the first game of the match.

Since then Kyrgios was largely on a roll but could not quite find the breakthrough he needed against a very good Basilashvili. The Georgian took the opening set in the tiebreak 7-4 where he simply outplayed a loose Kyrgios. The Australian squandered set points at 6-5 in the opening set. He got things under control early in the 2nd set when he broke Basilashvili early.

He would go on to hold his serve with ease not even paying much attention in return games. After taking the 2nd set, Kyrgios played well in the 3rd. His opponent did as well but eventually, he ran out of patience towards the end of the match rushing in many rallies. Kyrgios got the break at 3-3 making it 4-3 and then adding another game to make it 5-3.

He finished off the match with another break 6-3 to secure the quarterfinal.
