Nick Kyrgios took aim at a fellow commentator for a
'disrespectful' comment made during the fourth-round match between Alexander
Zverev and
Taylor Fritz. The Australian, currently serving as a BBC analyst
while rehabbing from an injury, was not pleased with the remark made about the
match.
The former
Wimbledon runner-up expressed his discontent on
social media, criticizing the commentator's understanding of the game. During
the match, Zverev appeared with a bandage on his left knee and struggled with
mobility after a fall in a previous round. The commentator’s critique didn't
sit well with Kyrgios.
“‘Not captivating’ - was a comment from a commentator who
is doing the Zverev & Fritz match. This alone tells me that they have
probably never played tennis at a high level. 2 of the most elite servers we
have. Quite disrespectful. C'mon be better," Nick Kyrgios wrote on X.
He further emphasized the context by adding, "Tour
serve quality 7.8 Zverev & Fritz both above 9. lol." When a fan
questioned the entertainment value of watching two exceptional servers, Kyrgios
responded, "Two of the best backhands on tour. Know ball."
The match between Zverev and Fritz saw a dramatic shift.
Zverev, after winning the first two sets 6-4, 7-6, seemed on track for victory
without conceding a single break point. However, Fritz mounted an incredible
comeback, taking the next three sets 6-4, 7-6(3), 6-3 to secure his place in
the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the second time in his career.
