"I want to leave": Yulia Putintseva shows no interest in press talk after defeat in Wimbledon round four

Kazakhstan’s tennis player Yulia Putintseva had a bad outing during Wimbledon 2024. The third Grand Slam is moving towards its conclusion, and the remaining players are giving their all to secure the ultimate prize.
Putintseva suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the fourth round to Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko, who got on the wrong side of the result with a score of 6-2, 6-3.
After that match, Putintseva, while talking to the media, stated that she just wanted to leave the press talk and was not really interested in staying there. Below is the full conversation Putintseva had during the media talk.
THE MODERATOR: How are you feeling right now, and how would you sum up the match today?
YULIA PUTINTSEVA: I don't feel well. I want to leave. That's it.
Q. How much did the last game affect you mentally today? Had it taken a lot out of you mentally?
YULIA PUTINTSEVA: What do you mean?
YULIA PUTINTSEVA: What? Sorry? Too much on a high?
Q. Yeah. Did the victory last time affect you today?
YULIA PUTINTSEVA: Not at all. What can it affect? Why should it affect me if it was three days ago?
The result was definitely disappointing, considering that Putintseva was coming into the contest on a high after beating world number one Poland’s Iga Swiatek in the third round with a score of 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.
On the other hand, the win put Ostapenko into her third Wimbledon quarterfinal and the first since 2018. In 2017, she lost in the last four to the former world number one America’s Venus Williams with a score of 6-3, 7-5. A year later, in 2018, she overcame the hurdle in the last-eight stage as she defeated Serbia’s Dominika Cibulkova in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 6-4. However, her journey ended in the semifinal as she lost to former world number one Germany’s Angelique Kerber in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-3.
