Last year's finalist Medvedev beaten in round two of Paris Masters by de Minaur

The first major upset at the Paris Masters came today as Alex de Minaur defeated Daniil Medvedev 6-4 2-6 7-5 to advance to the 3rd round.

The Australian played a superb match to take down Medvedev who did not play his best. This wasn't as good as he generally does and certainly nowhere near his Astana Open level. It's a major triumph for de Minaur who was 0-18 against top 5 ranked players in his career up until that point.

From the start, it was evident that he would have a shot because Medvedev was not playing that well. He did not serve as well as he can and he had some rather cheap errors being quite passive as well. It all amounted to de Minaur getting the break late in the first set to take it 6-4.

The second set was quite poor from de MInaur as Medvedev upped his aggressiveness which resulted in an early break. From there, Medvedev was able to cruise to a 6-2 finish. He kept up a solid level to start the final set taking an early 2-0 lead which he gave back not long after that.

de Minaur risked quite a bit and applied heavy pressure on Medvedev who ultimately faltered. He saved three match points before finally losing the point on the 4th match point for de Minaur.
