Novak Djokovic will play in the ATP Finals final as he defeated Taylor Fritz in two tight sets 7-6(5) 7-6(6) to advance.
It was a fairly good match by both and much better physically from Djokovic after yesterday. Many were worried whether the Serbian would be able to recover quickly after he was shaking from fatigue yesterday but he did it quite well.
He opened the match with an early break taking a 3-2 lead but also gave it right back in the very next game. Some early growing pains for Djokovic who found a good rhythm after that. He was unable to create too much pressure though as Fritz held his serve.
The tie-break was a close one but Djokovic was just slightly better and that was all that he needed to do in order to take it. Fritz responded well in the second taking an early break 2-0. He held it for quite a while, until 5-4 when he served for the second set.
The crucial moment came at 30-30 when Fritz missed an easy backhand near the net giving Djokovic a break point which he converted. From there we went into another tiebreak and Djokovic took it 8-6. A great late rally for the Serbian to escape in two.
