#NextGenATP star Jenson Brooksby has experienced a meteoric rise on the ATP circuit over the last few weeks, with the American making an incredible run that saw his ranking rise from outside the Top 200 of the ATP rankings to inside the Top 100 within four months.
The California native reached the final in Newport in July, followed by a semifinal showing at the Citi Open Washington last week. His exceptional play and impressive results saw him crack the Top 100 for the first time in his career, where he now sits at World No.99.
“I’m excited. It seems like a cliché answer, but I know I have the game to do it and I’m glad obviously I’ve done it in a short period of time,” Brooksby said in an interview with ATPTour.com. “Let’s see how high I can push it.”
The 20-year old's ascent has not gone unnoticed, as former World No.1
Andy Murray took to Twitter to heap praise on the young man.
“Jenson Brooksby is the sort of player I love to watch…lots of variety.. high tennis IQ…. great in defense,” Murray wrote. “His slice and backhand volley are almost identical to Florian Mayer.”
Following his superb play in Washington, Brooksby has been granted a wild card entry to the National Bank Open (Rogers Cup) in Toronto. This will be his maiden ATP Masters 1000 event, and he faces Georgian veteran
Nikoloz Basilashvili in the first round.
