Jack Draper proudly defended the British flag at Queen's Club besting
Taylor Fritz in two sets 6-3 6-2.
Fritz was ousted by a native player in Den Bosch last week and he suffered the same fat this year as local kid Jack Draper beat the American in straight sets. Draper played in the quarterfinal here last year and he seems to be having a similar goal this year after improving his level dramatically this season. He's got 4 challenger titles to his name already this year with a top 100 debut as well.
It was a fairly competitive match early on as both were feeling out the court and conditions. Draper showed a higher confidence level on grass which was to be expected of the native Brit. He eventually was able to extend rallies which frustrated Fritz who opted for an aggressive approach. Eventually, that turned into errors and Draper got the break.
He held on for the 6-3 opening set finish. Draper opened the 2nd set with an early break as well as fending off a break point on his serve in the next game. From there Fritz kind of yolo'ed it till the end but it did not work. Draper was solid and sturdy on his own serve. He broke Fritz once more and finished out with 6-2. A quick win for the native Brit who is hopeful for a strong grass court swing.
