Lorenzo played very poorly up until this event but he found some magic at the Monte-Carlo Masters beating Novak Djokovic in three sets 4-6 7-5 6-4.
Musetti was always an interesting matchup for Djokovic as the Italian lead him 2-0 at Roland Garros two years ago ultimately retiring in the 5th set. The Italian is an excellent clay player and he's proving it once more in Monte-Carlo though his level here is a few levels above what he played so far this year.
The first set was interesting as Djokovic took an early break which he gave back right away only to break once more for the 5-2 lead. Musetti then broke once more to make it 5-4 with Djokovic breaking the Italian once more to finish off the set 6-4. It was a very competitive match with Musetti playing very well and Djokovic struggling to stay consistent.
The second set saw the players trade breaks in four consecutive games with Djokovic eventually going up 4-2. It looked like the match was over but Musetti found the inspiration to break back immediately and that started a sequence that finished with the Italian taking the second set 6-4.
The final set featured a rain delay not long after it began and when the layers returned it was still Musetti who was finding more solutions on the court. He took a break and held it to finish off the upset.
