Lorenzo Musetti will not compete at the National Bank Open in Toronto after breaching the events strict COVID-19 protocol.
While the tennis season is well underway for several months and while many tennis players have been vaccinated strict COVID-19 protocols are still in place for the majority of the events. One such event is the upcoming National Bank Open in Toronto where the rules imply a controlled environment for players which cannot be left upon entry.
One player that did leave was Lorenzo Musetti breaching the strict COVID-19 protocol of the event. That resulted in him being 'withdrawn' from the event as per the rule which players were notified about. The event clarified its stance by saying:
"As per the letter of approval issued by the Public Health Agency of Canada to the National Bank Open to run the event, any individual leaving the controlled environment is in breach of COVID-19 protocol and will be unable to re-enter to compete at the event."
Musetti entered the environment and left it getting thrown out because of it. The Italian will now make his way to Cincinnati where he will play at the Western & Southern Open next week. Musetti was replaced by Max Purcell in the draw.
