Lorenzo Musetti proved better than an injured
Matteo Berrettini who played the match but was unable to play his best 7-6(5) 6-2.
Berrettini explained yesterday that he disregarded suggestions from his team to retire against McDonald due to a very painful foot. He said he'll try to play today and he did but he was unable to play his best although he did try.
Musetti knew all of this hence why he was very patient knowing that the longer the match went on the more Berrettini would struggle. It proved true as Berrettini's level did drop off as the match went along although he had some early issues as well.
Musetti had chances earlier but he was unable to use them and ended up in a tiebreak. A combination of patience and the good play won him the tiebreak 7-5. Berrettini played worse in the second set as Musetti took an early 2-0 lead and from there cruised to a great finish.
6-2 was the final score as Musetti adds another trophy to his name.
