Mahut believes Djokovic will never be considered GOAT: "Even if he beats everything, there will always be a debate"

Nicolas Mahut feels that there will always be a debate when it comes to the GOAT status even though one player like Djokovic could build an undeniable case for it.

Djokovic is widely considered in a great position to snatch up the GOAT mantle for himself. He's got incredible records on his side, plenty of trophies and a chance to become the player with the most grand slam wins ever. Most importantly, the Serbian has good health which allows him to still play incredible tennis.

Speaking to L'Equipe, Mahut predicted Djokovic to end up with all of the records but he feels like people would still call it a debate as opposed to proclaiming Djokovic the best:

“Novak is going to have all the records. But even if he beats everything, there will always be a debate about the GOAT, which absolutely would not be the case if it was Federer or Nadal. I think Novak is underappreciated."

For now there is truly a debate but in a few years, we might not have one. Time will tell.
