The organizers of the 2021 Australian Open have announced that ticket sales for the event will begin at 25 per cent capacity for its three main stadia; Rod Laver Arena, Margaret Court Arena and John Cain Arena.
To combat the spread of COVID-19, the tournament organizers have divided the venue into three zones, with each zone including one of those three stadiums.
“As we work closely with the Victorian government, we hope to be in a position to increase our numbers as we get closer to the event,” Tournament Director Craig Tiley said in a press release.
In addition to all tickets being digital, the start times of the sessions will be staggered to help avoid overcrowding. Matches on Rod Laver Arena and Margaret Court Arena will begin at 11am, whereas sessions on John Cain Arena will begin at 12pm.
“The AO will be a great celebration for Melbourne and all Victoria after an incredibly tough year,” Tiley said. “Although our event will look a little different as we prioritize the safety of everyone, it’s going to be a fantastic opportunity to come together and experience many of the best things about Melbourne – live, world-class sport in an exciting festival atmosphere.”
The first Grand Slam of the season will be held from 8-21 February 2021, with players arriving two weeks in advance to quarantine before the event.
