Former world number one Mats Wilander has predicted that at least one out of Italy’s Jannik Sinner or Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz will complete their calendar Grand Slam in 2025. Both players are already regarded as two of the best in men’s tennis in the singles category.

Former world number one Wilander has been recently quoted in a report where he made a bold prediction that one out of Sinner or Alcaraz will win a calendar Grand Slam. “My very, very, very bold prediction for 2025 is that Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner will win the calendar Grand Slam," he said.

Calendar Grand Slam means winning all four major titles in a calendar year. Only three times in the history of men’s singles tennis a player has been able to achieve this feat. The only player to do that twice in the history of men’s tennis was the former world number one Rod Laver. He was also the last player in the history of men’s tennis to achieve this feat back in 1969.

Sinner and Alcaraz had a fabulous year at the highest level in 2024. Both players shared the four Grand Slams. It was for this reason the former world number one Serbia’s Novak Djokovic failed to win a single Grand Slam in a season for the first time in seven years. Sinner lifted the Australian Open after beating Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final in a five-set thriller with a score of 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 7-6. He then lifted the US Open title after beating America’s Taylor Fritz in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4, 7-5.

On the other hand, Alcaraz lifted the French Open title after beating reigning world number two Alexander Zverev in the final in a five-set thriller with a score of 6–3, 2–6, 5–7, 6–1, 6–2. He then lifted the Wimbledon title after beating Djokovic in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6.
