Daniil Medvedev put forward a great performance against Raonic in the semifinal and won reaching his first final in a while.
It took the Russian around an hour and a half to defeat Raonic 6-4 7-6(4) and reach his first final in a long time. The opening set started with both players serving well which was expected. Slowly but surely Medvedev took control of the match and he soon broke Raonic to take the lead. From there it was a mostly expected progression of the set with both players winning their service games. Raonic could not complete a comeback so Medvedev won the opening set 6-4. It was a good performance from the Russian who outplayed Raonic in all facets of the game. He had less errors and won four times as many baseline points for the first set victory.
The 2nd set followed a similar pattern with both players playing well at the start. Neither could win several points on their opponents serve so the games quickly piled up. It was a fast-paced set where nothing interesting happened until late in the set when Raonic had three breaks balls in total in a game. Daniil saved all of them and it was 4-4. At 5-5 Medvedev broke Raonic to take the lead but the Canadian came back immediately to force the tiebreak. In it, Medvedev opened the set with a net bounce which bounces his way and that set the tone early for the tiebreak. Raonic would make several bad mistakes while Russian remained calm and served his way towards the final.
