Alexander Zverev put forward yet another great performance and defeated Nadal booking a spot in the
Paris Masters final.
Even though
Rafael Nadal was considered the favourite heading into this one Alexander Zverev has produced better performance this past week in Paris. He produced yet another one against Nadal today beating him 6-4 7-5 in just over 95 minutes of play. It was a very interesting match that saw Nadal repeat some of the early struggles he had in the previous matches. Zverev used those struggles to break the Spaniard and take a 3-1 lead. From there he mainly focused on his own service games winning them without any particular issues. He served well and once he got his 1st serve in it was hard for Nadal to counter. The Spaniard won only 3 of those points and that was not good enough against Zverev so the German won the opening set 6-4.
The 2nd set opened in a similar manner to the first set as Nadal once again struggled on his serve. While in the opening set his struggles were with his 1st serve in this 2nd one it was the 2nd serve. Zverev once again took his chance breaking Nadal to take a 3-1 lead. He was very clinical in those situation converting both break points. He would almost add another break later in the set but Nadal hung on to make it 3-2. In the very next game Nadal carved out two consecutive break points but Zverev remained calm, saved them both and held his lead 4-2. At 4-3 for Zverev Nadal finally had a break point converted and he made it 4-4.
For a brief moment, it looked like Nadal might turn around this match but Zverev came back strong to break Nadal once more taking the 6-5 lead. He then went on to win the next game and match with another strong game. A marvellous performance from the German who continues playing stellar tennis.
