Daniil Medvedev finished as runner-up once more in 2022 and the Russian addressed that in his speech after the Diriyah Tennis Cup loss in the final.
Medvedev lost several finals this year and it all started at the Australian Open where he threw away a big lead in the final against Nadal. He never quite got things right after that losing multiple finals including to players ranked outside of the top 100 like Tim van Rijthoven. After losing to Fritz at the Diriyah Cup Medvedev joked with his team:
"Hopefully, next year there will be more victories and [fewer] runner-ups. Thanks for being here with me, and of course, thanks to everyone who was watching from home."
He also congratuletd Taylor on the win as well:
"First off, congrats to Taylor. I felt like it was an amazing match. Congrats to you and your team. Great match. Next time, I am definitely going to try and be the first one saving break points because I think it is important in our [matches]. Looking forward to [more] great matches against you."
