Daniil Medvedev overcame a shaky first set to defeat
Tommy Paul 3-6 6-1 6-4
It was a shaky start from Daniil Medvedev who was simply not focused enough in the first set. Paul served very well which allowed him to dictate rallies and win points. Towards the end of the set, Medvedev started playing better but it was too late.
After making some adjustments in his game Medvedev started playing a lot better and more aggressive. Paul did not know how to deal with it and he lost the set 1-6. The 3rd set was pretty even between the players as both players found a way to break the opponents serve. However, Medvedev was slightly better especially in key points and it was enough to win the set 6-4.
The final set featured a better play by Medvedev once more. Paul was not hitting his first serve as often as he did and his 2nd serve was attacked immediately by Medvedev. Medvedev dominated those points and won most of them. That resulted in Paul falling behind 0-4 rather quickly and his
French Open campaign was coming to an end.
Medvedev continued applying the pressure and Paul tried to counter but it did not work and he committed far too many errors. A couple of games later Medvedev sealed the deal with 6-3.
