It was a tale of two sets in the match between Bublik and Medvedev as the Russian ultimately defeated the player from Kazakhstan 6-4 7-6(8). The first set started off with Medvedev taking advantage of some early nerves by Bublik who committed a few cheap errors giving Daniil an early break. Medvedev almost went a double break up but Bublik was able to avoid disaster. From there both players held their serve and Medvedev was too solid.
He did not allow a single break point in the first set en route to the 6-4 win in just over half an hour. The 2nd set was a very interesting one as Bublik came out more determined taking an early break. He went up 3-0 but Medvedev was able to battle back and make it 3-3.
Bublik created more chances for himself in the 2nd set and generally played better but after avoiding disaster Medvedev settled in nicely. Neither flinched anymore and we ended up in the tiebreak where Medvedev jumped out to an early 4-1 lead. Bublik came back to make it 6-6 but in the end, Medvedev prevailed 10-8.
