The 2019 Western & Southern Open champion
Daniil Medvedev was quick against McDonald winning 6-2 6-2 to advance to round 3.
Daniil Medvedev continued where he left off in Toronto by smashing McDonald for his 6th win in a row. The top seed is playing his best tennis in a while and looks unstoppable as he marches on to round 3. From the start, it was evident that the American could not counter Medvedev in any way.
McDonalds game revolves heavily around his serve and while it was okay today that was simply not enough. The length of Medvedev gave him the ability to cover the court rather easily and the American simply lacked the firepower to blow Medvedev off the court.
The first set ended with 6-2 but McDonald was able to carve out 4 break points however he failed to use either. He was a bit better in the 2nd set actually converting break point but he could not hold serve so he still trailed for the majority of the match.
Medvedev closed out the match with the same score he won the first ser 6-2. A very solid start for Medvedev who avoided an early upset after winning an event that tends to happen frequently. The Russian will now look to continue his great run seeing how far his body can take him. He emphasized feeling good and dfresh after winning Toronto.
