Russia’s tennis star
Daniil Medvedev is once again living up
to the expectations in the China Open.
The 27-year-old has already booked his place in the semifinal
of the event after beating France’s Ugo Humbert in the quarterfinal with a
score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.
Medvedev's performance in the ongoing competition is not a
surprising one, considering how he has performed while playing on the hard
court.
The current world number three has played in the semifinal
or beyond in each of the ATP events played on the hard court.
Recently, he played in the final of the US Open where he came
second best against the current world number one Serbia's legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic in straight
sets with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 6-3.
Medvedev is now set to face off the world number 10 Germany’s
Alexander Zverev in
the last-four clash of the tournament on Tuesday.
Both players have faced off 16 times at the highest level
where Medvedev has a slight edge with nine victories to his name compared to the seven wins of the 26-year-old.
Interestingly, on the hard court, Zverev has a better record
while playing against the Moscow-born where he won four times compared to three
victories of the 2021 US Open winner.
