Rafael Nadal didn't retire immediately after injuring himself at the Australian Open but rather kept playing on it which tennis commentator Stubbs feels might have been unwise.
The Australian former player was there for the event and watched Nadal getting injured. It didn't look good when it happened so many were surprised when Nadal opted to continue on playing. Speaking after the match, Nadal admitted that he didn't want to retire as the defending champion wanting to exit the event proudly but it might have been the wrong choice.
That's what Rennae Stubbs noted when she reacted to Nadal's pull-out from Roland Garros:
"Sad news on Rafael Nadal having to pull out of the
French. I was sitting court-side when he sustained the injury in OZ
& I can't believe he kept trying to play. Looking back in hindsight
might not have been the wisest to keep playing that match? Just sucks
not to have him in Paris."
