Stan Wawrinka has had multiple injuries in missed the majority of 2021 yet the Swiss player misses life on Tour and can't wait to be back.
The career of Stan Wawrinka is an impressive one that bloomed rather late in his tennis life. Even so, there are not many tennis players that claimed 3 grand slam trophies during the peak era of the big three. Wawrinka did that by defeating them in the final as well. Tennis hasn't been as kind recently though as the Swiss player missed the majority of 2021 with injuries.
He is working hard on his comeback and he can't wait to be back because he misses this life. Wawrinka admitted it in an interview saying:
“There are a lot of things that you don’t know about athletes. About what they’re going through. You only ever see the good sides. But it’s difficult for many of us, including me. Life on the tour is something very special, and you chose it at a young age. I really want to come back, back to the emotions that tennis gives me, to the stadium, to the fans. I miss this life.”
As Wawrinka noted above it's a life of sacrifice but it's something tennis players choose at a very young age. Over time it just becomes part of their life and Wawrinka misses it badly. He will hopefully be back in 2022 and tennis fans will once again be able to watch him play.
