Jannik Sinner triumphed over Novak Djokovic in the 2024 Shanghai Masters
Jannik Sinner has racked up an impressive 19 top 10 victories in the 2025 campaign. This tally, somewhat depleted of what it could have been due to suspension, is still miles behind Novak Djokovic's leading tally of 31 set back in 2015.
The Italian beat his record tally of 18 from the previous season as he enjoyed an imperious calendar year on the court. This involved picking up two Grand Slam titles, the Paris Masters trophy and to finish the year off, ATP Finals glory over his nemesis Carlos Alcaraz.
In fact, Sinner's year was so dominant that Alcaraz was the only top 10 player he competed against that he did not achieve a 100% record against. He lost to the Spaniard in just finals. This included the Rome Open, Roland Garros and Cincinnati. Aside from that, he was perfect against any top 10 player coming his way, including a trio of wins over the current world number one.
The vast majority of these triumphs came in the second half of the season. After defeating Alex de Minaur and Alexander Zverev enroute to glory in Melbourne, he did not step out on court for another three months due to a doping suspension. His next two wins came on clay against Casper Ruud in Rome and Djokovic at the French Open. He defeated the Serbian once more at Wimbledon, also getting the better of Ben Shelton and Alcaraz in the final. The only top 10 win on the North American hardcourt swing came against world number 10 and fellow countryman Lorenzo Musetti.
By this stage, Sinner was on eight. A part of this was not regularly meeting up with the top players. This would be reversed in the Asian swing and European indoor hardcourt swing. In the space of a couple of months, Sinner's total shot up to 14 after two wins over de Minaur and Zverev, and victories in the Paris Masters against Shelton and Felix Auger-Aliassime. His overall total culminated at 19 when he won the ATP Finals unbeaten.

Where does that put Sinner compared to the greats of the sport?

The 2025 campaign does have an asterisk next to it for the 24-year-old. If he had competed in the whole season, his number of top 10 wins would quite possibly be a lot higher. It may have challenged the highest total by Novak Djokovic in 2015 with 31. In a totally dominant season where he won three Grand Slam, while losing in the final of the French Open, plus taking him the ATP Finals crown.
He also appears third and fourth on this list, but just ahead of them is John McEnroe's 1984 season where he got up to 26 top 10 wins. He won the Wimbledon and US Open title among a whole host of achievements in a fantastic year for the American. Djokovic's 2012 and 2013 campaigns closely follow with 24. This is also equalled by Rafael Nadal in the 2013 season, his only inclusion on the list.
Ivan Lendl (22 in 1985) and Jimmy Connors (21 in 1976) follow in pursuit. Once more, Djokovic finds himself on the list. His 2011 and 2016 year's were filled with delight, with five Grand Slam titles spread between them. He also managed 21 top 10 wins both year's. Bjorn Borg is the last player in the twenties, having got 20 top 10 triumphs in 1978 and 1979. He is the only player to feature more than once on the list aside from Djokovic.
Sinner's 2025 is level with Roger Federer's 2006 and Djokovic's 2014 campaigns in an incredible achievement by the Italian. He has still many more years to challenge for the top spot, as well as Alcaraz who alongside Sinner is enjoying a blossoming rivalry at the top of tennis.
