Patrick Mouratoglo has responded to claims that the next-gen of players are not crowd magnets the way the big three are by pointing out that neither were them.
The big three have dominated the tennis landscape for so many years that many tennis fans don't remember a time when they didn't. While they're still dominating, the number of events they play is rather small. One is retired and the other two carefully choose where they will play. Due to that, the numbers have been going down as the new players simply don't draw enough interest.
Mouratoglou argued that something similar happened with the big three as well when they were starting out. The coach of next gen rising star Holger Rune is certain the sport will carry on fine without the big three as new exciting players will replace them. He says that fans should give them time:
"Give the next Gen some time. The big 3 haven’t been loved from day 1."
