Sinner won the last edition of the event held in 2019 with the 2020 edition canceled due to the pandemic. The event is being held in Milan, Italy and it features a very good crowd ready to support their countrymen. Musetti, who will play at the event for the first time hopes to bring joy to those native fans with a victory at the event making Italians back-to-back champions.
Speaking on that he said:
"Two years ago I saw all of Sinner's games at the Next Gen ATP Finals and now I would like to keep the trophy in Italy (laughs). Jokes aside, we are all honored to be here and we can't wait to get started."
There is plenty of competition at the event and all players will be looking to win the trophy. Some big names like Alcaraz and Korda are there as is Hugo Gaston who recently played his best event in 2021 by reaching the Paris Masters quarterfinals.
Musetti also admitted that there are certain expectations as well:
"It is obvious that there are great expectations and great attention to me. I am very pleased to have the public on my side and I don't think it will be a burden; it will not be the first time that I play in Italy with support in favor."
The Italian also backed the coaching rule at this year's event saying:
"Coaching is very useful, I don't understand why ATP has not yet followed the WTA model. It is my favorite rule and it improves the level of tennis: it exists in every sport. I hope it will be introduced soon on the Tour."
