Novak Djokovic sat down with Marca ahead of the French Open to share his thoughts on the upcoming event.
Speaking to the Marca, Djokovic admitted that for him, Rafael Nadal is his greatest rival:
"Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have always been there, but for me, Nadal is the biggest rival in my career. I have matured as a player because he 'pushed' me to go in that direction.
Djokovic last played in Rome where he played himself into shape reaching the final and besting Tsitsipas easily to win the trophy. Ahead of Roland Garros, Djokovic believes himself to be one of the favourites:
"I definitely see myself as one of the favourites. I don't spend a lot of time thinking about who will win or who has the best chance. I always think only of myself, I'm going there with the greatest ambition, especially because of how I played in Rome. I like my chances."
Time will tell whether he is right but he certainly seemed unbeatable at the event last year.
