Both first-seeded Rafael Nadal and no. 3 in Acapulco, Stan Wawrinka advanced into quarterfinals at the 2020 Abierto Mexicano.
After Tommy Paul stunned Alexander Zverev, and Grigor Dimitrov booked his quarterfinal spot, the brightest stars of the night fought for their place among the Best 8 in Acapulco. Stan Wawrinka faced Pedro Martínez and Rafael Nadal took on Miomir Kecmanovic.
The Swiss started his match earlier. Wawrinka controlled the match against Martínez from start to finish. Although he lost his service game in both sets, he managed to break his opponent twice in both sets to win 6-4, 6-4.
World number 2 had a rocket start into the match against the Serbian. Nadal led soon 5-0 in the first set after capturing 2 breaks. However, also the Spaniard lost his serve than but managed to win the set 6-2 in the end. The second set showed much more drama. Nadal was already serving for the match at 5-3, but he lost his service and we have seen 12 games in the second set. Rafa broke Kecmanovic's service to win the set 7-5 and set up a quarterfinal clash against Kwon-Soon Woo.
