The ATP Next Gen Finals have been introducing new rules every year as it's a great event to test out some innovative things.
The ATP Next Gen Finals have traditionally been an event where tennis tests out new rules. Some of those rules have become permanent in tennis. Coaching was trialled at this event and then brought to the main Tour as well as electronic line calling.
This year will feature some more innovative rules and we bring you a summary of those. To start, players will now switch sides every three games instead of two. The most interesting rule change will be the one where the time between points will be shortened if the point was won by an ace, a winning serve or a double fault.
When that happens, the time between points will be cut from 25 seconds to 15 seconds after the score is announced by the umpire. It's an attempt to make games faster and matches snappier as the attention span in the newer generation is much lower than older ones.
