Nick Kyrgios backed up his top 5 grass player claim with a strong comeback win over Stefanos Tsitsipas 5-7 6-2 6-4.
This was a very entertaining match because it delivered the full Nick Kyrgios experience. We saw some spectacular points, plenty of aces, one broken racquet, two code violations and Nicky boy winning it in the end. The first set was pretty standard with good serving by both and no break points for a very long time. At 5-4 for Tsitsipas Kyrgios saved a couple of set points to make it 5-5.
He then had to do the same at 6-5 for Tsitsiaps but this time around he was not able to do it and we saw a broken racquet and a furious Kyrgios. He channelled that anger well in the 2nd set smashing Tsitsipas 6-2 with some empathic baseline play.
Tsitsipas was not serving as well as at the start and for the most part, as he demonstrated this year when his serve is not hitting he is very vulnerable on grass. The final set was quite interesting as generally, Kyrgios was better. Tsitsipas held on fairly well thanks to his serve but it was only a matter of time until he would find a chance.
He eventually did at 4-4 in the final set to take a 5-4 lead finishing off the match with 6-4. A strong win for Kyrgios who moves on to the next round.
