Nick Kyrgios replaced Stuttgart with Halle and the Aussie tennis player eased past his opponent in the opening round 6-3 7-5.

It was a typical match for Kyrgios who played rather well from start to finish but he also got annoyed by some things. The opening set was a fairly well-contested set of tennis by both but Kyrgios proved better. He served better and it allowed him to keep the games short. His opponent did not produce the same serving effort and eventually, Kyrgios was able to break him twice for the 6-3 win.

The 2nd set was better contested by Altmaier as the German found a very strong rhythm both on his serve and return. He gave Kyrgios some problems in a couple of games but every time the Aussie was prepared with a response. Eventually, Altmaier's serve abandoned him and Kyrgios got another chance at breaking him. He did so late in the 2nd set to win it 7-5.
