Nick Kyrgios dared to predict the result of this Sunday’s
Australian Open final between
Novak Djokovic and
Carlos Alcaraz through his
social media. The Australian backed the 24-time Grand Slam champion to be crowned champion once again in Melbourne for the 11th time in his career — and two years after his last major title.
The Australian has shown a good relationship with both Djokovic and Alcaraz off the court, especially with the Serbian — his rival in the 2022 Wimbledon final and with whom he even played doubles back in Brisbane International 2025.
The Australian was not 100% physically ready to compete at the
Australian Open this week and limited his appearances to the main draws in doubles. In men’s doubles, he partnered with Thanasi Kokkinakis — his partner with whom he won the Australian Open in 2022 — and they fell in the first round of the tournament against their compatriots Jason Kubler and Marc Polmans.
He later joined the
mixed doubles draw alongside Leylah Fernandez, achieving a notable first-round victory against specialists Neal Skupski and Desirae Krawczyk, but they ended up falling in the second round to Ana Danilina and James Tracy. Kyrgios said goodbye to Melbourne without giving signs of his potential return to singles competition, although for the moment the world No. 743 has no tournaments committed on his calendar.
Kyrgios follows closely despite his absence
However, Kyrgios always remains attentive to what happens in the tennis world, especially at his home Slam, where we will have a luxury
final this Sunday between
Carlos Alcaraz and
Novak Djokovic.
The Spaniard survived more than five hours of battle against Alexander Zverev in the semifinals, while Nole claimed an exciting victory against Jannik Sinner — also in five sets.
Although most people had predicted from the beginning of the tournament that we would have another Grand Slam final between Sinner and Alcaraz, it was ultimately the Serbian who frustrated the aspirations of the two-time defending champion, cutting short a streak of 19 consecutive victories at Melbourne Park.
While discussions were emerging about an
Australian Open lacking major emotions during the second week, notable semifinal duels took place on Friday, January 30, with more than nine hours of tennis at Rod Laver Arena, producing emotionally epic victories for Alcaraz and Djokovic, who will look to repeat a triumph this Sunday.
“Novak”: Kyrgios leaves his prediction
One of their colleagues — former world No. 13
Nick Kyrgios — has already left his prediction on who will lift the title this Sunday, with a brief message on social media.
“Novak.”
Kyrgios’ tweet has already surpassed 200,000 views and more than 500 reposts, just over 12 hours before the final is played.
For Djokovic and Alcaraz, this will be their 10th direct meeting, with a 5–4 record in favour of Djokovic. It will be their third major final (Alcaraz leads 2–0), with the Spaniard winning at Wimbledon 2023 and 2024.
This will be an almost unique opportunity for Djokovic to reach his 25th Grand Slam title, while “Carlitos” seeks to complete the Career Grand Slam — and become the youngest player to ever do so.
