Aussie star Nick Kyrgios didn’t hold back from commenting on the biggest controversy of the tennis weekend, as the Davis Cup match between Cristian Garin and Zizou Bergs ended in a bizarre fashion. The Belgian player, in an ecstatic celebration during a changeover, ran without looking and collided with the Chilean, sending him to the ground.
The incident led the South American team to call for Bergs’ disqualification—right after he had secured a break at 5-5 in the third set. Garin claimed he felt dizzy and nauseous and was unable to continue, but chair umpire Carlos Ramos only issued a warning to Bergs.
As the former world No. 17 refused to return to the court, he received multiple time violations, ultimately leading to a game penalty that handed the victory to Bergs without another point being played. The controversial ending sparked widespread debate in the tennis world, and the 2022 Wimbledon finalist couldn’t resist weighing in with a sarcastic response.
The official Davis Cup account shared details of the match on X: “Belgium's Zizou Bergs wins his singles match against Chile's Cristian Garin, who didn't return to court after an accidental collision at the change of ends,” the statement read. “A collision between the two players stopped the match, as Garin received medical attention. Play was then scheduled to resume, before Chile received three consecutive time violations.”
Kyrgios, never one to shy away from controversy, mocked the description of an “accidental collision” by responding with a sarcastic: "Hahahahaha it got corrected.”

Kyrgios had previously taken a dig at Bergs months earlier when the Belgian made an exaggerated celebration after a win at Roland Garros 2024. Videos of Bergs’ emotional on-court reaction prompted Kyrgios to simply comment: “Lame.” Shortly after, Bergs responded to the Australian, and Kyrgios didn’t take it well.
