The
Davis Cup begins in less than a month, and it appears Team Australia will be competing for the title without tennis bad boy
Nick Kyrgios.
The Australian Davis Cup roster was released on Tuesday, with Kyrgios' name noticeably absent. The 26-year old is arguably Australia's best player, but has been embroiled in feuds with Australian Davis Cup management.
Leading the Aussies is World No.32
Alex De Minaur, who is currently competing in at the Erste Bank Open Vienna. Team captain Lleyton Hewitt did not address Nick Kyrgios’ absence in his squad announcement, preferring to focus on the challenge facing Australia in Turin next month.
“It’s going to be really exciting to be back with the boys again at the Davis Cup finals,” said the two-time Grand Slam winner. “Team selection is never easy – we will be led by our number one Alex de Minaur, who has had a really consistent three to four years on the tour and has established himself as a top player.”
The Davis Cup Finals will feature 18 countries, and run from November 25 to December 5. It will be hosted in Turin, Madrid and the Austrian city of Innsbruck.
