Jack Draper secured a notable victory against
Matteo Arnaldi with a score of 6-0, 6-4 and advanced to the semifinals of the
Madrid Open. The world No. 6 showed his favoritism to claim a straightforward win and reach the semifinals of a Masters 1000 for the second time in his career.
The 2025 Indian Wells champion had a dominant first set, in which he only conceded four points on his serve, while winning 12/18 return points. The 23-year-old took advantage of three of the six break points he had and won the set by a resounding 6-0 in just 25 minutes.
Arnaldi managed to break Draper's streak of games at the start of the second set and successfully defended his serve a couple of times until 2-1. However, Draper once again took control of the set by securing a break and winning three consecutive games to lead 4-2. The Brit had a couple of break chances in the final minutes of the match but had to rely on his serve to close out the victory 6-0, 6-4.
Draper hit 17 winners compared to Arnaldi's 14, while he totaled 15 unforced errors compared to the Italian's 25. The world No. 6 shows once again that he can adapt to playing on clay courts and will seek a place in the semifinals against the winner between Lorenzo Musetti (10th) or Gabriel Diallo.
