Cameron Norrie is not having a very good year so far as he once again crumbled while he was in the lead and now he's out of the Australian Open.
Norrie threw away a 3-0 lead against Gasquet last week in Auckland to lose the trophy in the city where he was raised. The British player now did a similar thing by throwing away a 2-1 lead in sets against a fairly inexperienced youngster Lehecka who comfortably finished off the match. Norrie has been showing a lot of doubt in his game and it's been very clear.
Opponents can feel it and both Gasquet and Lehecka used it to their advantage. To be fair, Lehecka looked pretty certain in his game from the start here. Norrie was quite lucky to escape with the first set in the tiebreak as he won a set where he didn't have a single break point while saving all three he faced.
Lehecka responded furiously taking an early 3-0 lead in the second set and he held it to win the set 6-3. The 3rd set saw Norrie return to form as he took the set 6-3. He wasn't able to take that momentum into the next set as he got completely crushed by Lehecka 6-1. Norrie already showed some doubt there and it proved a disaster when he dropped the final set as well.
Norrie didn't serve well all day and he was dreadful from the baseline. Lehecka had a lot to do with that but it was just another bad performance from the British number one.
