Ben Shelton’s girlfriend, Trinity Rodman, has criticised the BBC for their coverage during
Wimbledon 2025. Shelton cemented his spot
in the quarterfinals of the third Grand Slam of the year after beating Italy’s
Lorenzo Sonego with a score of 3-6, 6-1, 7-6, 7-5.
It will be the first time that Shelton will feature in
the last eight of the mega-event. Trinity, who was in the stands to support her
boyfriend, took to social media to criticise BBC for their coverage. Trinity
was clearly unhappy with BBC’s commentators who could not pronounce her name
correctly. She was also not happy that her father was mentioned during the
conversation on air.
"For those who don't know… my name is TRINITY, not
Tiffany," she wrote in a story on her official Instagram account. "Also,
for Ben's matches, he has his family there as his support system, which
includes his dad. My dad's not even in MY life. No need to bring him up during
HIS matches when I don't even want him talked about during mine. It's his and
his loved ones' moment. Thank you."
Shelton, on the other hand, was clearly ecstatic about his win over Sonego and expressed his feelings to the media after
the match. “Before the last game, I was thinking ‘I don’t want to play another
tiebreak’, especially against a guy serving the way he is,” said Shelton. “I’m
getting very comfortable out here on No.1 Court,” he said. “I was told before I
came over here for the first time that the crowds here at Wimbledon were a bit
quieter than the other Slams but I didn’t feel that today.” Shelton will next face
world number one Jannik Sinner. The 23-year-old cemented his spot in the last-eight after his opponent, Grigor Dimitrov, was forced to retire from the last-16 contest despite winning the first two sets.
