Former world number one Mats
Wilander believes Spain’s young tennis star brings the kind of energy onto the
tennis court that is unmatched.
The 20-year-old is regarded as the
most highly-rated young men’s tennis player currently playing in the circuit.
Wilander was recently quoted in a
report where he stated that the kind of energy Alcaraz brings is unmatched, something
that was not even possible for the likes of the former world number one Roger Federer.
"The most important part is
the smile that he bring to the court,” he said. “When there’s pressure, he’s
still out there having a great time and you can see he’s having a great time
because he’s smiling.
"That is so new. Not even the
great Roger Federer did that. Rafa certainly not, Novak once in a while, but
not in the same way. He needs to go back to having more fun on the court. He's
looked so much more tense since Wimbledon.”
Alcaraz became the talk of the
town after beating the current world number one Serbia’s legendary tennis star
Novak Djokovic in the final of Wimbledon earlier this year in a five-set thriller
with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
That
was his second major title at the highest level as he also won the US Open in
2022 after beating Norway’s Casper Ruud in the final with a score of 6–4, 2–6,
7–6(7–1), 6–3.
