It was supposed to be a dramatic match and for a good amount it was but then Carlos Alcaraz's body betrayed him and it proved a rather uninteresting finish 6-3 5-7 6-1 6-1 with Djokovic moving to the final of Roland Garros (French Open).
The Spaniard has been playing sensational tennis at this year's event blazing through opponents with ease. It looked like nobody was going to stop but then Djokovic appeared and with a lot of luck the Serbian prevailed. It was a great match for two sets with the first going to Djokovic after a very erratic and shaky start from Alcaraz.
Generally, we've seen Djokovic starting off slow but this around it was Alcaraz as Novak was very precise. 6-3 was the score for the Serbian mainly thanks to Alcaraz just missing too many balls. The second set was a brutal one that lasted well over an hour. Both players had chances but it was Alcaraz who broke first taking a 5-3 lead with a chance to close out the set. He didn't as he got broken and then Djokovic held from 0-40 down to make it 5-5.
Still, Alcaraz kept pushing and ultimately he got the break he needed to finish things off 7-5 in the second set. At the start of the 3rd set, Alcaraz seemingly started to cramp leaving himself unable to move. He forfeited a game to receive a medical timeout but it didn't help much as struggled to move though continued to play. Djokovic cruised to a 6-1 finish with Alcaraz taking a bathroom break to try and get himself ready for the next set.
It didn't matter much as he kept struggling to move although moved better than in the previous set. Still, Djokovic saw his chance and pounced taking an early lead and then finishing things off 6-1. Just a terrible ending to a great match.
