Novak Djokovic advances to the fourth round of the Miami Open after defeating Argentine surprise Camilo Ugo Carabelli 6-1, 7-6(2). The World No. 5 secures his second consecutive victory to reach the Round of 16 at the Miami Open.

The Serbian had previously secured his first win – after three consecutive defeats – against Rinky Hijikata, 6-0, 7-6. Djokovic is now preparing to face Italian 15th seed Lorenzo Musetti, who defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Djokovic Takes Control Early

The first set quickly tilted in favor of the 24-time Grand Slam champion as he broke early and raced to a 3-0 lead. The Serbian looked confident and took control of the match against World No. 65 Carabelli.

The match seemed to have little trouble for Djokovic, who managed to secure a second consecutive break and closed the set 6-1 in his favor. Djokovic showed solid serving stats with 75% first serves in, winning 72% of them, while Carabelli managed to put in 63% of his first serves, winning 75% of them.

One of the key differences was how each player handled their second serve. The Serbian won 50% of his second serves, while Carabelli failed to win any points on his second serve against one of the best returners in history.

Nole holds on in second set tiebreak

After a slow start with both players holding serve, Djokovic managed to break and seemed to be cruising to a straightforward third-round win. However, Carabelli quickly regained hope by breaking back – on his first opportunity of the match – to level it at 2-2.

From there, both players held serve comfortably until 4-4. Carabelli, who was only winning 45% of his first serves, managed to win most of his second serves. He saved a couple of break points and took the lead 5-4 with his serve.

The match extended to a tie-break with no further breaks. A quick mini-break gave Djokovic the advantage. From there, he held onto the lead and exploited the Argentine's lack of experience, securing a harder-fought victory than expected, 6-1, 7-6(2).
