Jessica Pegula is through to the Last 16 of the Miami Open for a fifth straight year after taking down Anna Kalinskaya. She needed a final-set tie-break though to squeak past the Russian 6-7, 6-2, 7-6.

Pegula who lost early at Indian Wells to Elina Svitolina recently won Austin but Florida has been a happy hunting ground evidenced by her streak over the past few years. Kalinskaya on the otherhand has shown signs of life after claiming her first win since Singapore early in the year this week.

Albeit Kalinskaya has form for good ties against Pegula including their Berlin final last year. But ultimately the Russian falls short. She has plummeted down to 33rd in the rankings live this week and Ashlyn Krueger could yet surpass her soon.

Krueger is into the Last 16 in Miami and a slew of players including Sramkova, Avanesyan and even further back in Bencic and Kessler are circling meaning Kalinskaya needs results and fast.

But given that she has been healthy for the first time this week in a long while, she will take some solace despite falling just short. For Pegula, it was a gutsy display as she let out a huge roar in celebration after an epic battle.

Next is Marta Kostyuk who produced one of the moments of the day as she decided to underarm serve to defeat Anna Blinkova 6-2, 6-1. The mark of sheer confidence from the Ukrainian. Likely it is Mirra Andreeva that could await in the Quarter-Final for Pegula.

She faces Amanda Anisimova tonight. This section also includes Emma Raducanu. Amanda Anisimova and McCartney Kessler will aim to spoil that party but Pegula is through albeit through the skin of her teeth. She improves her Head to Head to 3-0 over Kalinskaya but she needed three sets in each of those wins in ties that could've gone either way.
