Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic continue to hold ascendancy in the race for most Grand Slams in tennis history. The 37-year-old is regarded as the greatest player in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category, having won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles.
No player in the history of men’s tennis has managed to win as many major titles as the former world number one. Not only that, but only one player in the history of tennis, both in women’s and men’s tennis in the Open era, has managed to win 24 Grand Slams, which was legendary Margaret Court. Therefore, if the Serb manages to win one more major title next title, he will become the player with the most Grand Slams in the history of tennis.
Former world number one America’s Serena Williams is the second on the list with 23 Grand Slam titles in her career. She is very closely followed by Spain’s Rafael Nadal and Germany’s Steffi Graf, with 22 major titles. Switzerland’s Roger Federer remains the only other player with 20 or more Grand Slam titles. He won a major competition 20 times.
Djokovic had a mixed Grand Slam season where for the first time in seven years, he failed to win a single major title. However, he still managed to have a glory event as he completed the trophy cabinet by finally winning an Olympic gold medal. He defeated Spain’s young tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz in the final in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 7-6. Djokovic’s most recent appearance in the mega-event came at the US Open, where he was knocked out after losing in the third round to Australia’s Alexei Popyrin with a score of 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. Djokovic’s best performance in a Grand Slam came at Wimbledon, where he finished runner-up after losing to Alcaraz with a score of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6.
