Retired American tennis player James Blake gave his opinion on the longevity of Novak Djokovic, stating the 24-time Grand Slam champion could be in contention for Major titles until the age of 40.
The 37-year old Serbian has shown little sign of slowing down this season, having finished runner-up at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. Subsequently, Djokovic finally captured the Olympic gold medal that has eluded him during his entire career when he defeated rival Carlos Alcaraz at the Paris Games this summer.

Djokovic's motivation will play a role in his Grand Slam tally, says Blake

The former World No.4 was surprised by Djokovic's early loss at the US Open, with many critics believing it was a sign that the Serbian was losing interest in the sport. With Olympic gold finally under his belt, there isn't anything left for the 37-year old to accomplish in the world of tennis. However, Blake believes Djokovic could still challenge for Grand Slam titles in the future, provided he finds a reason to stay truly motivated.
"Everything depends on Novak," said Blake. "Physically, he is still impeccably fit. Now the only question is whether he wants to. He has done and won everything in this sport. He still has that fire when he wakes up.
Does he still want to sacrifice everything to continue to be the best? He has been doing this for almost the last 20 years. If he wants, then he certainly has, I won't prejudge, but one or two good years. His level of tennis is incredible even at 37 years old. The question is not whether he can, but whether he wants to. If he wants to, he will be a candidate for Grand Slam titles by the time he is 40."
