Novak Djokovic defeated Alex Molcan in Belgrade to win the Belgrade Open and lift the trophy.
It was an expected result in the Belgrade Open final as Novak Djokovic defeated Alex Molcan 6-4 6-3 to lift the trophy. The match was a straightforward one where Novak played as much as he needed to in order to win. It was not his best display nor highest level but it was enough to overcome a qualifier who played sensational tennis all week long to reach his first ATP level final.
Molca took an early break in yet another slow start for Novak which has become somewhat of a tradition. Djokovic would pull it immediately back but Molcan once again took the lead with 3-2. Djokovic went on a 3-0 run to take a 5-3 lead and he was about to serve for the match. However, Molcan broke him but he could not hold it losing the opening set 6-4.
The 2nd set featured similar play by both players as Djokovic continued to show brilliant tennis at times but Molcan was holding one. The Slovakian player played aggressively going for winners oftentimes and hitting them at a decent clip. He would go down 4-2 in the 2nd set but he found a way to pull the break back.
But he once again could not hold onto it as Djokovic broke his serve for the 6th time in the match to take a 5-3 lead. Djokovic was serving for the match and to the delight of the native crowd, he was able to end it with 6-3. A good finish for Djokovic who will look to travel to Paris asap for the French Open.
