Serbia’s legendary tennis star
Novak Djokovic has donated a hefty sum to a charitable cause. The 37-year-old is often regarded as the greatest player in the history
of men’s tennis in the Open era in the singles category, having won as many as 24
Grand Slam titles in his illustrious career.
As per the latest report, Djokovic has donated a sum of more than $200,000 to charitable causes. The report stated that he received the prize money after his heroics in
the Paris Olympics. The Belgrade-born star recently completed his trophy cabinet
after winning the gold medal for his country at the Paris Olympics. He defeated
Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in the final in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 7-6. After the win, Djokovic burst into tears of joy, and it was visible what that result meant to him as it was the only big title that was missing from his trophy cabinet.
Djokovic’s win was an even more special one, considering that he suffered a serious injury while playing at the same venue where he won the gold medal just months before during the French Open. The current world number two suffered a knee injury just
before the start of the quarterfinal at the Roland Garros against Norway’s
Casper Ruud.
That injury
not only ruled Djokovic out of the clash but also forced him to undergo knee surgery.
That surgery put his participation in the upcoming mega events at risk.
However, not only did he return to the court soon after but also produced some
significant performances. Before appearing in the Paris Olympics, Djokovic played
at Wimbledon where he went all the way to the final. He ended up losing the grand
finale to Alcaraz who lifted the title for the second year in a row in straight
sets with a score of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6.
