Novak Djokovic was left medalless in the singles competition of the Tokyo Olympic Games as Pablo Carreno Busta 4-6 7-6(6) 3-6.
Novak Djokovic finished the singles competition of the Tokyo Olympics without a medal as he lost the bronze medal match against Carreno Busta. Djokovic said after his loss to Zvereve yesterday that he will try to win at least one medal despite not getting the one he wants.
Initially, it seemed that way as Djokovic was very engaged and had several break points early in the match but Carreno was able to save them. It was the Spaniard who then broke Djokovic after a very bad service game. He would hold on to the lead and win the first 6-4 despite some heavy pressure from Djokovic.
The 2nd set was a very closely contested one as both players served great keeping the other at bay. Neither faced break points in the set and we ended up the tiebreak Djokovic proved more composed winning it 8-6. However, that momentum did not carry over in the 3rd.
After failing to win a break points Djokovic tossed his racquet into the stands and received no warning. Still boiling with anger he lost his service game easily breaking a racquet and only then received a warning. He never got a break chance again as he lost the set with 3-6.
