A battle of Novak's happened in Innsbruck today with Novak Djokovic taking on Denis Novak in the Davis Cup Finals 6-3 6-2.
The first match of the tie between Serbia and Austria delivered a brilliant match between Lajovic and Melzer where the Serbian secured the first point of the tie. The winning point was easily secured by Novak Djokovic who played an okay match against Denis Novak beating him easily in two sets. There will be one more match played, the doubles, but Serbia has already secured the win.
Djokovic took some time to get going as Novak was serving fairly well early on. The Serbian failed to create much pressure on the Austrian who is a very good indoor hard courts player. Djokovic did not panic and he continued playing his own game, winning his service game without much trouble. The first time he was able to create more pressure on Novak was when he broke him.
It happened at 4-3 in the first set after which Djokovic took a 5-3 lead and closed it out with 6-3. The start of the 2nd set was firmly in control of Djokovic as the Serbian found cracks in the armor of Novak and he was able to exploit them. He broke him twice early for the 4-0 lead in the 2nd set and after that, it was mostly cruise control for the Serbian.
Djokovic closed it out with 6-2 securing the first win for Serbia. It was a solid match by Djokovic who will need to be clinical in this event if he hopes to lift Serbia to the top of the Davis Cup. So far so good.
