Following an unexpected Daniel Evans loss in Monte Carlo,
Novak Djokovic went home to Serbia, preparing for the next week's Serbia Open at his Tennis Center in Belgrade.
Speaking about the upcoming Tokyo Olympics, Novak said that he targets the gold medal, the last remaining title he hasn't won in his glorious career. Always giving his best while defending the national colors, Novak has already won two team competitions for Serbia, conquering the Davis Cup 2010 and the ATP Cup 2020 with his teammates. Now, an 18-time Major winner wants to add another massive title to his collection, finishing third in Beijing 2008 and missing the opportunity to win a medal in London 2012.
In Beijing 2008, Novak lost an epic semi-final to Rafael Nadal before scoring a win in the bronze medal clash to bring the medal home to Serbia. In London 2012, Novak suffered a massive blow at Wimbledon, losing a tight semi-final to Andy Murray in two hours and failing to grab another bronze medal following a loss to Juan Martin del Potro. The Argentine and the Serb met in the opening round of the 2016 Rio Olympics, and del Potro won that one 7-6, 7-6 after two and a half hours, with Djokovic leaving the court in tears.
"Winning the Olympic gold medal is one of the dreams, of course. I don't want to be ungrateful for winning bronze because that was also a success. I played semis in London and lost, both that match and the bronze medal one. I always find extra motivation to perform at my best when I'm representing the country and, especially at the Olympic Games, as we all know, it's the most historical sports event," Novak Djokovic said.
