Novak ON TOP 🏆 @djokernnole defeats Cilic 6-3 6-4 for his 89th ATP title and 3rd this year!
Novak Djokovic took down his good friend Marin Cilic in the Tel Aviv Open 6-3 6-4 to lift his 3rd trophy of the year.
Djokovic won trophies in Rome and Wimbledon earlier this year with this final being the fourth he played. He avoided losing it as he lost the one in Belgrade to Rublev and it made him really happy. Just yesterday Djokovic admitted to being very emotional after reaching the final as it meant a lot to him.
It's been the hardest year of his career with many things happening and Djokovic mostly looking on from home as he was barred from multiple events. The Serbian will cherish this trophy as it's an important one for him as it gives him a necessary push for the ATP Finals in Turin as well.
It was a rather straightforward match. He knew what to do to win and he did it well. Cilic had good moments as well but overall you need to be spectacular to beat Djokovic and Auger-Aliassime demonstrated that recently at the Laver Cup.
This wasn't it and the Seribna was able to win the first 6-3 thanks to one timely break. He didn't face any break points in that first set but did face one in the second set. Overall it's just been a spectacular match from Djokovic who dropped only 4 points on his serve.
