Novak Djokovic wins 20th Grand Slam trophy at 2021 Wimbledon over Berrettini

Novak Djokovic won his 20th Grand Slam trophy at the 2021 Wimbledon by defeating Matteo Berrettini 6-7(4) 6-4 6-4 6-3.

The start of the match was ideal for Djokovic although he did not play his best tennis. The Serbian was able to use some initial nerves by Berrettini to break him early and take a 5-2 lead. However, Berrettini settled in time to crawl back into the match and force a tiebreak. In it, he was able to outplay Djokovic and take it 7-4.

The 2nd set was played superbly by Djokovic who broke Berrettini twice early and had a 5-1 lead. However, the Italian was able to come back with some stellar shot-making but Djokovic still won the set with 6-4. The Italian played a much better 3rd set but Djokovic once again took an early break.

Berrettini would force two break points later in the set but after failing to convert them he did not get a 2nd chance. Djokovic closed the set out with 6-4. The 4th best was overall the best set played by both players. Berrettini had some early momentum and had chances but Djokovic produced brilliance to save them.

Midway through the set however Berrettini did not play his best tennis and Djokovic was able to carve out a break point. Clearly rattled by the missed opportunities Matteo served a double fault and he never recovered after that. Djokovic closed it out with 6-3 winning his 6th Wimbledon overall.
